Yesterday, I participated in Walk MS with my walk team, Team Multiple Strengths, in my hometown of Bristol, Rhode Island. Walk MS is such an amazing event, and it is always so inspiring to see hundreds of people coming together to support a common cause. It is a day that always touches me very deeply, and yesterday, it got me thinking about why I continue to walk.

In addition to raising funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis, I walk…

For those who were diagnosed before me and who may not have had the advantage of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) or the benefit of all the recent knowledge and advancements that have happened in the world of MS. You have paved the way and made it easier for those of us who were diagnosed after you.

For those MS Warriors currently living with the disease each and every day. As always, you inspire me, motivate me, and keep me going.

For those newly-diagnosed and for those yet to be diagnosed. My hope is that with every year, it will get somewhat easier, and less devastating, to hear the words, “You have MS.”

To teach my kids that they can tackle anything that life may throw their way. No matter how hard or difficult that things may seem, I want them to know they will get through it and be all that much stronger. Life does go on.

To bring family and friends together to enjoy each other and to celebrate life. I’m grateful and thankful for the support system I have in my life and I don’t know what I’d do without them. To me, that’s what it is all about. It’s about much more than MS.

And finally, I walk…

To show the world that I still have hope and I truly believe that with each day, we are getting closer and closer to a cure.
